The Atoll: Chronicles of the Reef (Anthropic API Key Required)

A ship went down. Thirteen strangers washed up on an atoll. To the north, a volcano is waking. Somewhere on the island is a transmitter, and the only way home is to rebuild it before the mountain takes everything.

The Atoll is a survival colony sim about attachment and its cost. You direct thirteen survivors through the daily work of staying alive: foraging, building, tending the wounded, sending expeditions into the island's dangerous corners, while the clock of the volcano counts down. Every survivor has a name, a history, and relationships that shift with what you ask of them. The injuries they take are permanent. The people they lose, they bury.

And when the rescue comes, well, that's when relationships matter. So talk to people.

This is an early alpha. The full loop plays through, but you're seeing it before polish. Your feedback is important. The graphics are retro. The gameplay is not.

The basic rules of survival are:
1. Establish your camp. Water is sparse, and rain might not always save you.
2. Send out expeditions. You will rarely find salvage or medicine without leaving camp.
3. Watch your mission list and upgrade your survival skills when you can.
4.  Roll well.  

A note on how it works: The Atoll uses live AI-generated dialogue. The survivors speak in their own voices, in the moment, responding to what's actually happened in your colony. This requires your own Anthropic API key, which you enter in-game (it stays on your machine and is never shared). A full playthrough costs well under $0.50 in API usage (averaging around $0.15 for me).

Currently the in-game "Signal" limits the chance of costs spiraling. You only have so many API calls to find out the information you need and to build the relationships that you will need to survive. A full game with unlimited API calls is on the roadmap. This is just the appetizer.

This game has been a labour of love for me. The concept of being able to play with "real" characters who speak in their own voice has been a dream goal of mine for years. I didn't think I would get a chance to build that type of game for myself. There are hidden mechanics that make sense; I wanted people to find these things out for themselves rather than in a FAQ. Let me know if it's too obscure.

All donations will go towards the possibility of making games full time and hiring people to make this framework a living, breathing world in 3D.

A note on the AI: The survivors' dialogue is generated live by an AI language model, in the moment, and is not scripted or pre-written. Because of this it is unpredictable and may occasionally produce content that is unexpected, off-tone, or unintended by the developer. If you encounter a response that seems wrong or inappropriate, please use the in-game report button so it can be reviewed. By playing, you acknowledge that dialogue is AI-generated and provided as-is
